Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a health condition. It affects a person’s cognitive development, motor skills and social interaction. Communication and behaviour are also common affected areas. One every 132 people in the world suffers from Autism.
Scientists from all over the world study cannabidiol (CBD) to treat a series of symptoms of ASD. And are successful using it. Studies show improvement in:
- social interaction.
The role of CBD for autism with anxiety is twofold.
It’s safe. Parents choose CBD oil is because it’s not psychoactive. Not to mention medical marijuana is still illegal in a few places.
First, some children with Autism use CBD oil for anxiety. Parents say it alleviates stress, aggression, self-injurious behaviours, and trouble with social interactions.
Second, CBD oil can help children with autism and epilepsy lessen co-occurring seizures.
Children with epilepsy find the same (or better) relief from their symptoms as well. CBD works better than the traditional anti-anxiety and anticonvulsant. Bonus: fewer side effects.
Researchers are still working to identify how CBD oil can help anxiety in autism. For many families though the informal evidence is enough for now.
